This is the appetizer that gets requested at every Super Bowl party and social gathering! These ham and cheese sliders are such a crowd-pleaser that I've dubbed them "marry me sliders" because they're literally the first thing people ask for when they get invited to our Super Bowl parties. They are the irresistible easy-to-eat dish that always have people coming back for more and they disappear faster than any other appetizer I make. Once you make it, get used to having people request them for every party!

What makes these Ham and Cheese Sliders better than other sliders?
These ham and cheese sliders are soft, bite-sized sandwiches made with Hawaiian rolls. They're slightly sweet with a savory and tangy kick. The garlic butter mixture on top take these to another level! The sliders are covered and baked to achieve that gooey melted cheese. The sliders are then uncovered to toast for a slightly crispy texture that mimics garlic bread. Cut them prior to baking so your guests can create that signature pull-apart cheese-pull with each slider and you'll see why these Hawaiian sliders aren't like other sliders you've made.

Ingredients

For the Garlic Butter:
- Garlic: Fresh garlic is highly recommended for that aromatic flavor. Skip out on that JARlic here (jarred garlic)!
- Parsley: Adds freshness and color to the garlic butter!
- Butter: Gives it that richness and the golden crispy top.
- Worcestershire sauce: Adds depth and umami to the garlic butter.
- Dijon mustard: Brings a tangy component that adds to the layers of flavor.
- Salt: Enhances and balances the flavor profiles in the garlic butter.
- Honey: Adds a subtle sweetness that complements the dijon mustard and Worcestershire sauce!
For the Ham and Swiss sliders:
- King's Hawaiian rolls: Slightly sweet and buttery soft rolls are the perfect rolls for a hand-held slider!
- Deli ham: Any sliced deli ham will work but I like using honey ham!
- Swiss cheese: A classic pairing for ham and has a mild cheesy flavor that will balance well with the herb garlic butter.

Instructions

To make the garlic butter
- In a small heat-safe bowl, mix together minced garlic, minced parsley, butter, Worcestershire sauce, Dijon mustard, salt and honey until well combined. Microwave in 30 second intervals until the butter has melted and set aside.

To prep the ham and cheese sliders
- Preheat your oven to 350F.
- Without separating the rolls, slice each pack of King's Hawaiian rolls in half horizontally using a large serrated knife. Keep the top and bottom halves intact as two separate pieces.

To assemble the sliders
- Place the bottom half of the King's Hawaiian rolls on a cutting board. Layer the sliced ham evenly across the bottoms, followed by the swiss cheese. Next, place the top half of the King's Hawaiian rolls on top of the swiss cheese.

- Using a serrated knife, slice the King's Hawaiian rolls into sliders, following the perforated lines.

- Place the sliders into a non-stick baking dish and brush the tops and sides of the sliders with the garlic butter.

To bake the sliders
- Cover the baking dish with foil and bake at 350F for 8-10 minutes or until the cheese has melted. Remove the foil and bake for another 3-5 minutes or until the tops are slightly toasted. Serve immediately while warm!
Substitutions and Variations
- Cheese - Swap out swiss cheese for cheddar, provolone or your favorite mild cheese!
- Protein - Sliced turkey works great here for non-pork eaters! Cooked thinly shaved beef is a good alternative too.
- Vegetarian option - Use cooked mushrooms in place of ham. Just be sure to cook them down first to remove any moisture!
Storage and Reheating Instructions
Store leftover ham and swiss sliders in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 5 days. To reheat, place them in a baking dish and cover. Bake at 300F for 8-10 minutes or until warmed through.
Top tip
- Assemble the sliders prior to cutting them. This will make both assembling and serving easier! Cutting them after assembling but prior to baking ensures everyone can grab them as they please when it comes out of the oven. This means you can bake them right before guests arrive and there's no fuss having to handle and cut them when they're hot!
- Brush the garlic butter generously. This will keep the sliders moist and prevent them from drying out.
- Cover the sliders with foil initially to melt the cheese, without burning the sliders.
FAQ
Absolutely! These sliders are perfect to prep ahead. Assemble them completely and cover tightly with plastic wrap. Refrigerate for up to 24 hours before baking. Note: cooking time may vary slightly when baking from the fridge.
While you can substitute with regular rolls, the sweet Hawaiian rolls make these sliders even better. The buttery sweetness pairs perfectly with the salty ham and cheese and creates that signature taste that makes these Hawaiian sliders so irresistible!
Baking the sliders uncovered will cause them to dry out. Be sure to generously brush them with the garlic butter and cover with foil when baking, to melt the cheese. Uncover the sliders for just a few minutes until the tops are slightly golden brown and toasted.
